The Naomi Jones Scholarship High School Seniors honors the remarkable legacy of Soror Naomi Jones, affectionately known as "Bobo," a distinguished member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and an active contributor to the Alpha Mu Sigma/Twin City Alumnae Chapter in Winston-Salem, NC. A retired educator, Soror Jones is celebrated not only for her outstanding achievements in athletics—being a legendary golfer and a Hall of Famer in basketball for her record as the highest scorer—but also for her unwavering commitment to community service.

Soror Jones has dedicated her life to enhancing the lives of others through various initiatives, including church activities, voter engagement, and bridge clubs. At the Naomi Jones Resource Center, named in her honor, she oversees essential community programs that provide free meals for children, after-school activities, and services for senior adults, reflecting her deep commitment to addressing the needs of her community.

As a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., Soror Jones embodies the values of sisterhood, service, and leadership. Her tireless efforts in promoting community well-being and her passion for mentorship have made her a true role model for aspiring leaders.

Through this scholarship, we honor Soror Naomi Jones not only as a trailblazer in education and athletics but also as a devoted community servant who has inspired countless individuals to pursue excellence and service. We aim to continue her legacy by supporting aspiring leaders who share her dedication to community engagement and empowerment.

Eligibility

  • Young woman who is a graduating senior

  • Resident of Forsyth or Guilford County

  • Planning to enroll in a two- or four-year college

  • Minimum unweighted GPA of 2.5

  • Proof of college acceptance

Be enrolled during the current academic school year to qualify for this scholarship.

 

Scholarship Amount & Terms

  1. A one time $500 Scholarship will be awarded to one (1) student per academic school year. This is a non-renewable scholarship.

  2. Payment will be made directly to the recipient. The scholarship should be used to offset the cost of tuition, academic fees, books, supplies and equipment required for the recipient's education.


Application Requirements:

  • Completed and signed application

  • Official university transcript showing a GPA of at least 2.5.

  • Two letters of reference

  • An essay must accompany your application.
