As a member of the Rho Chapter, you will join a legacy of empowered women dedicated to sisterhood, scholarship, and service. Eligibility for Undergraduate Membership
To be eligible for membership in the Rho Chapter, you must meet the following criteria:

Enrollment: You must actively enrolled at Winston-Salem State University

Academic Standing: Candidates must have successfully completed at least one quarter, semester, or trimester and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or the average accepted by your institution or the Pan-Hellenic Council, whichever is higher).

Documentation: To apply, you will need to provide:

A sealed transcript from your degree-granting institution.

Verification of enrollment from your housing institution.

Induction and Membership Requirements
Candidates may be inducted into the Rho Chapter after meeting the academic and documentation requirements outlined above. Once inducted, you must maintain a GPA of 2.5 to remain in good standing. Undergraduate membership can be held for a maximum of six years; if you do not complete your degree within that time, you will transition to a graduate chapter as an associate member.

Philo Affiliate Membership
Open to Women Without an Undergraduate Degree
Since its inception, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. has fostered unity among women and engaged with those outside Greek-lettered organizations. In 1943, these women formed auxiliaries, and in 1954, the group was officially named "Philo," meaning "Friend."
In 1980, under the leadership of Mrs. Evelyn H. Hood, the Philo Affiliates were established nationally, now representing over a thousand women across the U.S. and abroad. They contribute countless hours of community service and significant financial support to enhance the quality of life in various communities.
Purpose and Activities
The Philo Affiliate upholds Sigma Gamma Rho's ideals, supports its programs, and provides volunteer services. While not members of the sorority, Philo Affiliates share its principles and actively participate in joint activities.
Members engage in diverse service projects, including educational initiatives, community outreach, and fundraising. The Philo Affiliate also empowers women to develop leadership skills and foster relationships, contributing to the growth of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.

The inspiration behind Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was the love for youth and the commitment to nurturing their full potential, a vision set forth by Founder Mary Lou Allison Gardner Little.
The Rhoer Club serves as an empowering affiliate for young women, providing them with opportunities to learn about their heritage and develop essential leadership skills. In a world where young people face unprecedented challenges, the Rhoer Club embodies Little’s vision by transforming these challenges into opportunities for growth and service.
Rhoers are organized at local, regional, and national levels, working together to support one another and their communities. Sigma Gamma Rho is dedicated to guiding Rhoers to become women of substance, committed to service and making a positive impact in the world.
